(If you listened to AM radio in the mid-'70s [OK I am old] then you remember these.) But Albert discovers that it costs too much to get the rights to hit songs, so he records his own "hits," thinking the snippets are so short, most people won't know the difference. The end result, "A Party from Outer Space," is not funny but that is the point.

Happy birthday to the tremendously funny, witty Albert Brooks, who was born on July 22, The actor, producer, writer and director began his career as a self-deprecating stand-up comic, performing several times on Johnny Carson ‘s “Tonight Show” and earning a Grammy nomination for his comedy album “A Star Is Bought.”.

Written by Albert Brooks and Harry “Spinal Tap” Shearer, “Party From Outer Space” appeared on Brooks’ brilliant, neglected A Star is Bought album. The song, performed by Brooks and Shearer, was comprised of snippets from completely fabricated “hits” that are spliced into the track at various intervals.
